The Heavy Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment such as cranes, tracked vehicles, rough terrain container handlers, container handling equipment, and material handling equipment. This includes the operation of manually controlled gasoline/diesel, electric, or liquid propane powered forklifts to transport goods and materials within a warehouse, manufacturing plant, staging area, lot, railyard, or other establishment.
Essential Functions of the Position
Must be able to operate and log use of straddle crane, KALMAR, TEREX 80 Rough Terrain Crane (Swing Cab), 10K-50K forklift, company truck and other heavy equipment as required
Uses equipment to lift, upload, offload, or move other materials to load flat rail cars, flat rack containers, step decks, flatbeds, curtain sided trailers, Conestoga trailers, etc.…
Operates all heavy equipment in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant industry standards, policies, and site procedures
Cleans heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required
Ensures heavy equipment is safely and securely stored at the close of shift
Performs other relevant duties as assigned
No direct supervisory duties.
Required to walk, stand, sit, and move about the property for long periods of time.
Indoor/Outdoor; exposure to external desert environment, hot, cold, windy conditions year-round.
Able to lift and/or move up 50 lbs.
Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, and normally involves physically getting into and out of equipment using vertically mounted ladders 10’ or more in height.
Ability to visually see equipment operations well (either naturally or with corrective lenses).
Ability to stoop, kneel, squat, or climb for long periods of time.
Repetitive movements of feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, and back in performance of work.
Working at elevated heights.
Must be a team player, able to accommodate a flexible work schedule to include working on holidays and overtime.
Indoor/Outdoor; exposure to external environmental conditions possible.
Noise level can range from minimal to intense.
Possess NCCCO Crane Certification
Must have heavy equipment operation experience with specific experience operating straddle crane, KALMAR, TEREX 80 Rough Terrain Crane (Swing Cab), 10K-50K forklifts, etc.
Must be able to read and interpret equipment operator’s manuals.
Must be able to operate heavy equipment and/or drive trucks.
Must be able to speak, write, read, and understand English.
Must be adaptable, flexible, and able to adjust to new or changing instructions.
Must be able to multitask and complete assignments accurately and on time.
Possess a Valid California Drivers’ License.
CDL License preferred.
Be computer literate.
Must be a US Citizen.
Must be able to obtain and maintain Secret Security Clearance.
Must be able to obtain and maintain Base access and Common Access Card (CAC).
