Job Description:

Repair and maintain specialized equipment to include but not limited to ambulances, fire trucks and other emergency vehicles.  Perform maintenance and repair activities on various pieces of heavy equipment including but not limited to tactical and non-tactical heavy duty trucks, semi-tractors, KALMARs and material handling equipment, i.e., 4000lb to a 40 Ton Forklifts, M4Ks, Atlas M270s, Dozers (D7G), graders, compressors, air compressors, and ground support equipment. Analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors and pneumatic tools. Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency. May direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment, and may repair, adjust and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines.  Performs all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. All work is accomplished IAW with the applicable Army regulations, DA PAMs, Technical Manuals, Technical Bulletins, and Repair Manuals. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested, which may include travel to and assisting at other sites to accommodate applicant flow.  Must be able to utilize an assortment of tools to perform repairs that include power, pneumatic and machinery such as grinding machines, presses, torch-cutting equipment, jacks and hoists to lift and move large components.  This job description is indicative of the work required for the position, but is not all inclusive of the work required to perform the duties of this position.

Requirements:

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic must have a minimal of 5 years of hands-on experience and excellent understanding of mechanical equipment and theory of operation of cranes, tactical vehicles, electrical systems, generators, automotive and HVAC maintenance and other heavy equipment.  ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification a plus but not required.  EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) certification and experience required.  The minimum Job Performance Requirements (JPRs) for a person to be considered qualified as an EVT will be any mechanic who will be engaged in the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, repair, and testing of emergency response vehicles in accordance with Emergency Vehicle Technician II Qualification reference: AR 420-1, Army Facilities Management; NFPA 1071 Standard for Emergency Vehicle Technician Professional Qualification; and Maintenance Plan for Fire and Emergency Vehicle and Equipment. Provides personal common hand-tools to perform repairs to support daily operations.  Must possess a valid driver’s license and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or the ability to obtain one.  The employee chooses, interprets and adapts available guidelines (that often contain conflicting or ambiguous instructions) to specific assignments, and recommends changes to those policies.  Candidate must be able to perform all the tasks not exclusive of those described in the job description section.  Must be U.S. citizen and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.  Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English proficiently and have the ability to clearly and concisely communicate both orally and in writing.  Must be proficient in the use of computers and MS Office Software.  Must be able to obtain a CAC and work the assigned shift hours.  This job description is meant to be a guide.  It is not intended to limit in any way the duties an employee may be required to perform.  This job description may be updated at the discretion of the company.
